High Sierra Trout Rodeo 2024

The High Sierra Trout Rodeo will take place on July 13th at Vermillion Valley Resort (VVR). The fishing derby runs from 6:00AM - 12:00pm on July 13th, followed by a raffle and awards ceremony.

Friday, July 12th:

Early check-in for the event will be available all day at the VVR front desk. Join us for wood-fired pizza night at the VVR cafe.

Saturday, July 13th:

  • 5:00 AM: Event check-in at the Edison Lake Boat Ramp.
    • Cooler and boat checks will be conducted prior to fishing.
  • 6:00 AM: Fishing starts when lines are allowed in the water.
  • 12:00 PM: Final check-in with the biggest catch* at the boat ramp.
    • No late check-ins accepted!
    • Lunch 12:00-2:00 PM: Available for purchase at the VVR cafe.
    • *Biggest fish will be measured by length, and if there’s a tie then we will resort to weight.
  • 2:00 PM: Raffle and awards ceremony.
    • $500 cash prize for the biggest catch.
    • Over $500 in raffle prizes.
  • After 3:00 PM: Free time and activities.
    • Relax and explore the area.
    • Enjoy VVR facilities like cornhole, ping pong, or our mountain-famous BBQ.

Things to Do Before Arriving:

Participants should register, pay, and sign the waiver online. They should also ensure compliance with state and federal laws by verifying watercraft registrations, fishing licenses, and all equipment.

When does registration begin and end?

Registration opens June 10th, 2024 and closes July 13, 2024 at the start of the event.

How much does it cost to register?

Registration costs $50, and can be payed online using the link above.

What kind of water apparatus can I use to fish the lake?

Anything that floats!

Where can I fish?

You may fish from the bank or in the creeks connecting to the lake.

What can I use to fish?

You are only allowed to fish with hook, line, and bait.

Will I need to bring my own bait?

Yes! VVR will have worms and recommended lures used on a daily basis in Lake Edison.

Will there be food at the event?

Food will be available for purchase at the VVR cafe, including pizza night on Friday, and BBQ on Saturday. Snacks, beverages, and other goodies are also sold at the General Store.

What else is there to do if I bring my family?

  • High Sierra Pack Station offers horseback riding (hour, half-day, day). Contact them for more information.
  • Mono Hot Springs offers free access to hot springs, a private bathhouse, and massage room, as well as opportunities to fish and float the San Joaquin.
  • VVR provides access to the beach of Lake Edison, as well as ping-pong, cornhole, washeroo, and horseshoes.

Is there phone service or internet access?

There is phone service for AT&T carriers on the lake and dam. VVR offers fee-based Wi-Fi on a whole stay basis, 24-hour basis, and 2-hour basis.

What is the first prize for winning the trout rodeo?

The first place winner will receive a cash prize of $500, select gear, and swag. They will also be memorialized on the Fishing Wall of Fame.

Where do I stay?

Contact VVR for booking rooms and boat/kayak rentals (first come, first serve). There is free dispersed camping along Edison Lake Rd next to VVR. Additional lodging is available at Mono Hot Springs or campground spots at Vermillion, Mono Creek, and Mono Hot Springs campgrounds.

Can I bring my family?

Absolutely! We encourage and welcome the whole crew. There are plenty of activities at the resort for kids and adults of all ages.
